Docker Datacenter (DDC) is a powerful solution for managing your containerized applications in a production environment. But what if you could kick the tires of DDC on your laptop with just a single script command? Welcome to DDC-In-A-Box! DDC-In-A-Box is an evaluation script that I wrote which creates a single virtual machine containing Docker Engine, Universal Control Plane (UCP) and Docker Trusted Registry (DTR). The products are licensed using your own license and integrated with each other so you can test out the push/pull integration between UCP and DTR.

Tutorial: Role Based Access Control in Universal Control Plane

It’s been an exciting time for us since we released Docker Datacenter a couple of week ago, which included the GA of Universal Control Plane (UCP), our on-premises or VPC deployable management and orchestration solution for containers. Thank you for the enthusiastic response, and we’ll continue to deliver enterprise-grade feature sets into the Docker Datacenter platform. One such feature we delivered in UCP 1.0 was Role Based Access Control (RBAC)—deciding and enforcing who gets access to which resources. This is a really important and complex component of commercial IT infrastructure. This tutorial walks through how the feature is implemented in UCP and demonstrating it with an example.

Configuring Load Balancing and Service Discovery with Docker Universal Control Plane

Modern applications are broken up into, and advertised as smaller, decoupled microservices that can be easily scaled across large compute clusters. The microservices approach emphasizes two key architectural considerations: service discovery and load balancing. As developers build their applications to scale, they need to consider and design how each service is being discovered by other services from within or outside the cluster. Additionally, as these services scale horizontally across the cluster, they should be equally utilized for maximum load distribution.
