#SwarmWeek: Advanced Orchestration with Docker Swarm

Jérôme Petazzoni, Docker’s tinkerer extraordinaire, has been running full day on container orchestration with the full Docker stack. The whole workshop uses a demo application using DockerCoin (not a real currency, he tells us). It’s got with web frontends, web services, background workers, and stateful data stores. This is all to give you the experience of running a full scale app in production.

#SwarmWeek: Docker Swarm Exceeds Kubernetes Performance at Scale

There are people who will tell you that the community has made up its mind when it comes to container orchestration. The reality could not be further from the truth. A recent survey, of over 500 respondents, addressing questions about DevOps, microservices and the public cloud revealed a three way orchestration race between Docker Swarm, Google Kubernetes, and Amazon EC2 Container Service (ECS).

#SwarmWeek: SA Homes Loans Trusts Docker Datacenter with Embedded Swarm To Enable Microservices and Portability

SA Home Loans is a mortgage finance provider dedicated to dedicated purpose: to offer our customers the best in every service – from origination and credit approval through to registration and ongoing loan servicing. The company was launched to South African home owners in February 1999 and in these short years, have grown to become the country’s fifth largest home loans provider. Software is a key tool that our employees use to facilitate these great services to our customers. Recently we made a conscious decision to adopt a microservices architecture, to give us more flexibility and agility in development and deployments. We decided on Docker as our preferred platform, as containerizing our .NET services would allow them to be immutable and easily transferable across our development to deployment pipeline. We soon realised that we had the potential to have over Continue reading…

#SwarmWeek: HealthDirect Uses Docker Swarm for Blue Green Deployments

Healthdirect Australia provides all Australians with access to health information and advice, no matter where they live, or what time of the day or night it is, they can talk to a health professional, find trusted advice online about the appropriate care for their health issue and find the closest local services that are open when they need them. Our Docker journey originally started with the open source edition and early on we invested in building out our own tooling to support infrastructure and application provisioning. Recently we transitioned to Docker Datacenter consisting of Engine, Trusted Registry and Universal Control Plane (which comes with Swarm). Having an integrated end-to-end platform with management, plugins and ecosystem integrations available right out of the box was the deciding factor for us. Docker Datacenter provides us with a solid foundation for our application Continue reading…

#SwarmWeek: Video Tutorials to Join Your First Docker Swarm Cluster

For #SwarmWeek, our goal is not only to get you educated and comfortable with Docker Swarm, but to evaluate it by setting up your first cluster. So we created a video tutorial series to help you walk through the exact commands and configuration you need to get started. Follow along this three video series and you will setup a basic Swarm cluster with a high availability configuration and setup TLS for secure communications. You’ll learn everything you need to set-up a production environment. So let’s get to it!

#SwarmWeek: Get to know the Swarm maintainers

Docker Swarm is the open source project providing native host clustering and container scheduling for Docker application environments. The bi-monthly release cadence with new features and improvements are made possible by a group of maintainers, Docker engineers and contributors from all around the world. Maintainers are a special part of the Docker community, made up of Docker employees and members of the community. They encourage discussion, comment on proposals, respond to issues, review and merge pull requests in their free time – this dedication is what makes open source great, especially Docker.

#SwarmWeek: Introduction to container orchestration with Docker Swarm

Welcome to #SwarmWeek! In this rapidly changing container ecosystem, we believe that orchestration is one piece of a complete end-to-end application platform for both developers and IT operations teams to build, ship and run distributed applications. Docker Swarm is a big part of our orchestration toolset which includes: Docker Swarm for host clustering and container scheduling Docker Machine for automating Docker host provisioning Docker Compose for defining multi-container applications

Get Prepared for #SwarmWeek with New Video Series

Docker Swarm is native clustering for Docker. It turns a pool of Docker hosts into a single, virtual Docker host. We’re really excited about Swarm at Docker, because it lets you quickly and easily scale your apps. And with the latest features for discovery, scheduling, high availability, networking, and volumes, Swarm has everything you need. So we’re celebrating! Starting March 7th, we’re having Swarm Week. All week we’ll be posting tons of info about Swarm including blog posts, deep dive demos and more. Sign up for Swarm Week updates here or watch this blog and the #SwarmWeek tag on Twitter.
