Docker All The Things at OSCON!

Last week, the Docker team headed to Austin for OSCON for a week packed full of containers and open source! The official conference agenda featured many Docker talks including a keynote session (complete with live open sourcing of the core technology that powers the Docker for Mac and Windows desktop applications!) from Solomon Hykes, two packed workshops with Jérôme Petazzoni and a full day of sessions on containers with talks from Rackspace, IBM, Datadog, Avant, Couchbase and of course Docker. The local Docker Austin meetup group hosted an evening event on Tuesday with talks on Docker Security Scanning and Docker and unikernels. The Docker team also staffed a booth in the expo hall to answer questions from OSCON attendees. Below are the slides from most of the Docker talks – we’ll keep adding new ones as they get posted!

Improving Docker with Unikernels: Introducing HyperKit, VPNKit and DataKit

We’ve been working hard to build native Docker for Mac and Windows apps to ensure that your Docker experience  is as seamless as possible on the most popular developer operating systems. Docker for Mac and Windows include everything required to spin up a Linux Docker container that efficiently bridges storage and networking from the host into the Docker containers. They work transparently on both MacOS X and Windows, and require no other third party software. Docker has always been built on open-source foundations: Solomon Hykes is presenting a keynote today at OSCON 2016 about the incremental revolution that the firehose of collaborative open source development has enabled throughout Docker’s history.  Today, we are adding to our existing open source contributions by open sourcing the core technology that powers the Docker for Mac and Windows desktop applications!

Docker at OSCON: The Highlights

OSCON is the largest open source conference of the year, and Docker has a big presence again this year. OSCON starts with Open Container Day because of the importance the container ecosystem has taken on for the open source world. There will be lots of Docker content at OSCON and Open Container Day, including a keynote by Docker’s founder, CTO and Chief Product Officer, Solomon Hykes, on May 18th. There’s too many sessions on Docker at OSCON to include in just one blog post, so here are the highlights from the Docker team:
