Docker Birthday #4: Thank you Docker Community!

Pақмет сізге, tak, धन्यवाद, cảm ơn bạn, شكرا, mulțumesc, gracias, merci, danke, obrigado, ευχαριστώ, köszönöm, thank you Docker community! From Des Moines to Santiago de Cuba, Budapest to Tel Aviv and Sydney to Cairo, it was so awesome to see the energy from the community coming together to celebrate and learn about Docker! We originally planned for 50 Docker Birthday #4 celebrations worldwide with 2,500 attendees. But over 9,000 people registered to attend one of the 152 celebrations across 5 continents! A huge thank you to all the Docker meetup organizers who worked hard to make these celebrations happen and offered Docker beginners the  opportunity to participate in hands on Docker labs. Join in on the fun! In case you missed it last week, check out the pics from all of the #DockerBday celebrations including the awesome birthday cakes! Check out the Facebook photo album too! Docker Turns 4: Thank you Docker Community!

In case you missed it, this week we’re celebrating Docker’s 4th Birthday with meetups all over the world (check out #dockerbday on twitter). This feels like the right time to look back at the past 4 years and reflect on what makes the Docker Community so unique and vibrant: people, values, mentorship and learning opportunities. You can read our own Jérôme Petazzoni’s blog post for a more technical retrospective. Managing an open source project at that scale and preserving a healthy community doesn’t come without challenges. Last year, Arnaud Porterie wrote a very interesting 3-part series blog post on open source at Docker covering the different challenges associated with the People, the Process and the Tooling and Automation. The most important aspect of all being the people. Respect, fairness and openness are essential values required to create a welcoming environment for professionals and hobbyists alike. Good things come in small “containers”: Ingredients for a successful birthday party

written by Alex Giurgiu and Valentin Stoican, Seqvence For Docker’s 3rd birthday, the Docker team decided to organize a challenge to teach people Docker, and hopefully have some fun at the same time. It was a great event, with over 1180 people completing the assignment participating in 220 locations around the world. In this article, we will describe the way we leveraged Docker tools to create a platform capable of handling thousands of requests and testing more than 10,000 containers.

Docker Birthday #3: Q&A with Solomon Hykes, Founder of Docker

To celebrate Docker’s 3rd birthday, we are inviting newcomers to the Docker community for a fun training on how to build, ship and run distributed applications with ease thanks to the Docker platform. The Docker community organized over 120 Docker Birthday celebrations in 50 countries across 5 continents. We are immensely grateful to our awesome meetup organizers and the over 580 Docker experts who signed up to help newcomers complete the training! We also partnered with several organizations to ensure that these events are inclusive for everyone attending including underrepresented minorities in the tech community. Stay tuned for a blog post later this week with more information on those efforts. We recently sat down with Docker founder, CTO and Chief Product Officer Solomon Hykes to reflect on the past three years. We asked Solomon what his birthday wishes were for Continue reading…

Docker’s 2nd Birthday, By the Numbers

Back in March, we invited you to be a part of Docker’s first-ever open-source-a-thon to celebrate the project’s 2nd birthday and work towards a good cause. Now that over a month of events and online contributions have come to a close, we wanted to show off all the hard work our community has put in, and the amazing feat they’ve accomplished. Over 1,200 people attended birthday events across the world, between 17 open-source-a-thons organized by Docker and 7 run completely by community members. Participants learned Go, mentored beginner contributors, made their first open source pull requests, updated docs, wrote blog posts, and much, much more. It’s been pretty crazy.

Highlights from the Docker Project’s first open-source-a-thon

Today we are nearing the end of the Docker Open-Source-a-Thon that kicked off with the Docker birthday party! Here’s an update about the fun times we’ve had so far.
