Today on the Edge release channels, we released a new beta version of Docker Desktop, the product formerly known as Docker for Windows and Docker for Mac. You can download this new Edge release for both Windows and macOS. Docker Desktop enables you to start coding and containerizing in minutes and is the easiest way to run Docker Engine, Docker Swarm and Kubernetes on Mac and Windows. In addition to simple setup, Docker Desktop also includes other great features and capabilities such as: Fast edit-test cycles with volume mounting for code and data, including file change notifications. If you want to switch from Swarm to Kubernetes for orchestration, it’s a click of a button in the Docker Desktop UI. Introducing Docker Application Guides

In April of 2017 we announced the Modernize Traditional Applications (MTA) program at Docker. The goal of MTA is to take the vast back catalogs of existing applications that are running in enterprise organizations today, and bring them to a modern container platform, without requiring extensive rewrites or refactoring. I’m excited to share part of our learning from the MTA program and announce the release of Docker Application Guides.   Oracle WebLogic MedRec Sample Application on Docker Enterprise Edition Docker Application Guides demonstrate how to deploy popular enterprise applications – Oracle WebLogic and IBM MQ with WebSphere Liberty – on Docker Enterprise and Docker Desktop. Introducing an Easier Way To Design Applications in Docker Desktop

In today’s DockerCon keynote we previewed an upcoming Docker Desktop feature that will make it easier than ever to design your own container-based applications. For a certain set of developers, the current iteration of Docker Desktop has everything one might need to containerize an applications, but it does require an understanding of the Dockerfile and Compose file specifications in order to get started and the Docker CLI to build and run your applications. But we’ve been thinking about ways to bring this capability to ALL developers. We want to make it easier to get started with containerization, and we want to make it even easier to share and collaborate and integrate container-based development in to more developers’ toolsets. Docker Desktop: Your Desktop over ssh running inside of a Docker container

Motivation I’ve worked for the last 4 years in the financial market and I’m a heavy Excel user. I also use the browser a lot and since I started my summer job as financial intern at dotCloud I’ve been playing with docker. So, why don’t we take advantage of the cloud and use these and other heavy applications (in terms of processing and memory usage) within a container (lighter than a normal VM). Let’s get started!
