DockerCon 2015 Hackathon: Ready to Hack Docker?

600_433979944

The Docker team is organizing a 24-hour hackathon for the Docker community during the weekend before DockerCon 2015. Thanks to help from our sponsor Rancher Labs, this year’s DockerCon Hackathon will be our largest ever!

Spots are limited for this year’s hackathon, so be sure to RSVP now.

Didn’t get a spot? Don’t worry: just join the waitlist and we’ll let you know when a spot opens up.

Please note that all registrations must be completed through Eventbrite and that an RSVP to the Hackathon does not include access to the DockerCon conference – click here to purchase a ticket for the DockerCon 2015 conference.

Street Fighter Tournament – Ready? Set? Fight!

Got Chun-Li’s quick kicks? Or maybe Ryu’s Hadoken? Able to defend against Dhalsim’s yoga moves and Guile’s Sonic Boom?

Show off your skills in our Street Fighter tournament at the DockerCon 2015 Hackathon! We will be playing Street Fighter Ultra IV on Xbox 360 with two tournament brackets and six screens for duking it out!

The Street Fighter tournament begins on Saturday at 1:00 pm with the final games being played on Sunday.

The final four winners of DockerCon 2015 Hackathon’s Street Fighter Tournament will each receive a free pass to the DockerCon 2015 conference and an XBox 360 – thanks Microsoft for providing those!

Hackathon Rules

As a team of 5  to 10 hackers, you will hack on a project using Docker as the central piece. You will have exactly 24 hours to complete this project. These 24 hours include the time to create all materials needed for your presentation.

Everyone will submit projects in one of five categories. From there, judges will review all submissions and select the top 2 from each category. The final 10 teams will have 3 minutes each to present their project.

Although it is not allowed to start the project before the hackathon, we strongly encourage everyone to think about project ideas and submit them via this form before coming to the hackathon. We will build a page with all the project ideas on the DockerCon Website for everyone to see what ideas have already been submitted and help participants form teams.

Don’t have any ideas, check out the projects from last year’s Docker Global Hack Day.

The DockerCon Hackathon theme is Open (build cool and useful apps and tools around Docker ) but framed by the following categories:

  1. Build, Ship and Run cool apps with Docker
  2. Management & Operations: Logging, Monitoring, UI / Kitematic, Developer tools, Deployment, CI / CD, Stats, etc
  3. Orchestration: Composition, Scheduling, Clustering, Service discovery, high Availability, Load Balancing, etc
  4. Security, Compliance, & Governance: Authorization, Provenance, Distribution, etc
  5. Ressources: networking, storage API, etc

1st prize:

Each member of the winning team will receive a ticket to DockerCon 2015 (an $899 value) a chance to present their project.

Who Should Attend

Even though it is better to know about Docker before joining the hackathon, everyone is encouraged to attend and participate can join. We’ll set up a few tables dedicated to getting those who are new to Docker up to speed and ready to hack.

During the event, several Docker employees will be there to answer technical questions and help you with using and tuning your Docker project.
