Understanding Docker Networking Drivers and their use cases

Applications requirements and networking environments are diverse and sometimes opposing forces. In between applications and the network sits Docker networking, affectionately called the Container Network Model or CNM. It’s CNM that brokers connectivity for your Docker containers and also what abstracts away the diversity and complexity so common in networking. The result is portability and it comes from CNM’s powerful network drivers. These are pluggable interfaces for the Docker Engine, Swarm, and UCP that provide special capabilities like multi-host networking, network layer encryption, and service discovery. What’s New in Docker Datacenter with Engine 1.12 – Demo Q&A

Last week we announced the latest release of Docker Datacenter (DDC) with Engine 1.12 integration, which includes Universal Control Plane (UCP) 2.0 and Docker Trusted Registry (DTR) 2.1. Now, IT operations teams can manage and secure their environment more effectively and developers can self-service select from an even more secure image base. Docker Datacenter with Engine 1.12 boasts improvements in orchestration and operations, end to end security (image signing, policy enforcement, mutual TLS encryption for clusters), enables Docker service deployments and includes an enhanced UI. Tutorial: Role Based Access Control in Universal Control Plane

It’s been an exciting time for us since we released Docker Datacenter a couple of week ago, which included the GA of Universal Control Plane (UCP), our on-premises or VPC deployable management and orchestration solution for containers. Thank you for the enthusiastic response, and we’ll continue to deliver enterprise-grade feature sets into the Docker Datacenter platform. One such feature we delivered in UCP 1.0 was Role Based Access Control (RBAC)—deciding and enforcing who gets access to which resources. This is a really important and complex component of commercial IT infrastructure. This tutorial walks through how the feature is implemented in UCP and demonstrating it with an example.
