Extending Docker Enterprise Edition to Support Kubernetes

At DockerCon Europe, we announced that Docker will be delivering seamless integration of Kubernetes into the Docker platform. Bringing Kubernetes to Docker Enterprise Edition (EE) will simplify and advance the management of Kubernetes for enterprise IT and deliver the advanced capabilities of Docker EE to a broader set of applications. Swarm and Kubernetes Side-by-Side Docker EE is an enterprise-grade container platform that includes a private image registry, advanced security features and centralized management for the entire container lifecycle. By including Kubernetes for container orchestration, customers will have the ability to run both Swarm and Kubernetes in the same Docker EE cluster while still leveraging the same secure software supply chain for building and deploying applications. Docker 1.11: The first runtime built on containerd and based on OCI technology

We are excited to introduce Docker Engine 1.11, our first release built on runC ™ and containerd ™. With this release, Docker is the first to ship a runtime based on OCI technology, demonstrating the progress the team has made since donating our industry-standard container format and runtime under the Linux Foundation in June of 2015. Over the last year, Docker has helped advance the work of the OCI to make it more readily available to more users. It started in December 2015, when we introduced containerd ™, a daemon to control runC. This was part of our effort to break out Docker into small reusable components. With this release, Docker Engine is now built on containerd, so everyone who is using Docker is now using OCI. Thank You. Wow what a week! When we first brainstormed Swarm Week, it was to help spread awareness of Docker Swarm to the community. What we did not anticipate was the tremendous support from the community to proactively share your knowledge, experiences and experiments with each other so publicly. We had a lot of fun starting new conversations and learning about what people are doing with Swarm. Our hope is that this week inspires you to try something new and push your Swarm to the limit. [#SwarmWeek Edition] Docker Online Meetup #35: Docker Swarm

As part of #SwarmWeek, we hosted a Docker Online Meetup all about Docker Swarm. Docker Swarm is native clustering for Docker. It turns a pool of Docker hosts into a single, virtual Docker host. Because Docker Swarm serves the standard Docker API, any tool that already communicates with a Docker daemon can use Swarm to transparently scale to multiple hosts. Victor Vieux, a Software Engineer working on the Swarm product, presented an overview of Swarm along with a demo and Jeff Nickoloff, author of “Docker in Action”, reviewed his findings from scaling Swarm and Kubernetes.
