Docker Community Passes 100K Meetup Members Milestone

As most of you know by now, at Docker we love to organize meetups for the Docker community. We think meetups are a great way for everyone to learn, share their knowledge and network with others like-minded people while having fun. We are thrilled to announce that as of this weekend, there are more than 100,000 people who have joined the Docker meetup community. As we hit this milestone, we wanted to take a moment to reflect on how the community got there, why people are excited about attending these events and thank the people who made all of this possible.

Docker Birthday #3: Q&A with Solomon Hykes, Founder of Docker

To celebrate Docker’s 3rd birthday, we are inviting newcomers to the Docker community for a fun training on how to build, ship and run distributed applications with ease thanks to the Docker platform. The Docker community organized over 120 Docker Birthday celebrations in 50 countries across 5 continents. We are immensely grateful to our awesome meetup organizers and the over 580 Docker experts who signed up to help newcomers complete the training! We also partnered with several organizations to ensure that these events are inclusive for everyone attending including underrepresented minorities in the tech community. Stay tuned for a blog post later this week with more information on those efforts. We recently sat down with Docker founder, CTO and Chief Product Officer Solomon Hykes to reflect on the past three years. We asked Solomon what his birthday wishes were for Continue reading…

Docker Community Spotlight: Arun Gupta

Arun Gupta (@arungupta) wears many hats: VP of Developer Advocacy at Couchbase, author of a best-selling book, an avid runner, founding member of Devoxx4Kids USA, Java Champion, dedicated father, globe trotter, JUG leader and a Docker Captain. Arun first started blogging about Docker in July 2014 with a tech tip on how to get started. He now has published over 65 posts on Docker on his blog and the Couchbase blog. In addition to creating awesome Docker content, Arun has spoken at tons of conferences including JavaOne, Red Hat Summit and OSCON and we are excited to have him deliver a Docker for Java Developers workshop at DockerCon 2016 on June 19 in Seattle, WA. We recently sat down with Arun to discuss why he is passionate about Docker, open source software and teaching kids to code.

How I Started Contributing to the Docker Project

written by Antonio Murdaca, (@runc0m) I’ve always struggled with finding the free time to give back some of what I take from open source on a daily basis. This is by far the most obvious reason people find it difficult to start their open source “career” and turn contributing into a regular hobby. Unless you’re being paid for it, the time you spend contributing to open source is time you could have spent having a beer with friends. And many times, discussions with colleagues about doing feature “X” for open source project “Y” ends with someone saying, “Who cares if I fix a typo or refactor something?”. You might not find the time to contribute because you actually don’t care, you feel your contributions aren’t valuable, or you simply prefer to do other things. But as a user of open Continue reading…
