Integrating Docker EE Into Société Générale’s Existing Enterprise IT Systems

Société Générale is a 153-year old French multinational bank that believes technology and innovation are key to enriching the customer experience and advancing economic development. A few years ago, the bank started a project to define their next generation application platform that would help them get 80% of their applications running in the cloud by 2020. Société Générale chose Docker Enterprise Edition (Docker EE) to be the foundation of their application platform and began working with it 15 months ago. This year at DockerCon Europe, Stephan Dechoux, DevOps architect, and Thomas Boussardon, Middleware Specialist, shared their journey over this time integrating Docker Enterprise Edition [Docker EE] into Société Générale IT systems. You can watch their breakout session here: A New Platform For Today and Tomorrow Société Générale has a diverse application portfolio that includes many different types of applications, including legacy monolithic Continue reading…

Docker Cloud to the Rescue

3Blades offers data science collaboration services. In addition to offering task based project management features, 3Blades also allows users to spawn custom workspace, model and data source instances within the context of their projects. A variety of resource configurations are available for different instance types. For example, a user can launch an RStudio IDE workspace with a 1 vCPU and 2 GB of memory and another Hadoop datasource instance with 2vCPU and 4 GB of memory. Docker is a natural fit to enable this type of flexibility. It didn’t take very long for our team to go ‘all in’ with Docker. We were thrilled when we saw the added benefit of being able to quickly deploy our application stack after green builds with Continuous Integration tools. However, we struggled with a few issues when running multiple instances of our services, Continue reading…

FairFly Makes Deployment Super Easy with Docker Cloud

In case you were wondering who’s actually using Docker Cloud. Last week FairFly, an awesome startup that helps their customers rebook flights for less, participated in a joint webinar called “How FairFly Uses Docker Cloud.” During the webinar, Fairfly CTO and co-founder Ami Goldenberg explains how with Docker Cloud, our SaaS hosted service for managing and deploying applications in production, they are able to create an end-to-end CI/CD pipeline, focus on building apps vs. maintaining infrastructure itself, and able to reduce infrastructure costs.

CI/CD with Docker Cloud

So you want to innovate faster, right? Continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) are some of the most common, but impactful use cases for teams who are looking to Dockerize their environment. The key to CI/CD is being able to automate the workflow, while still keeping the necessary features in place (like performing tests and leveraging staging environments) to assure the quality of your applications.

Enabling Portability of Workloads And Fighting Lock-In, with Docker

Portability. This is perhaps one of the greatest characteristics of our Docker Containers-as-a-Service platform. After all, in some way it’s the reason why Docker has become as popular as it has today. In just 3 years, we have seen over 2 billion+ Docker Hub pulls, 400,000+ unique Docker Hub users, 200,000+ Dockerized applications and thousands of customers. A large part of the adoption hinges upon portability, making it clear that portability is a huge part of what our users are looking for. It provides the flexibility both developers and IT operations team need in order to succeed at their jobs. But what exactly is portability? At Docker, we define portability as the ability to move workloads across different infrastructure environments, maintaining consistency while enabling Hybrid Cloud and multi-cloud for the enterprise. Portability is the magic that allows enterprises to move Continue reading…

Docker Selected as a Gartner Cool Vendor in DevOps

Docker is pleased to have been included in Gartner’s latest “Cool Vendors in DevOps, 2015“report, published April 21. In the report, Gartner notes: “As virtualization and cloud applications grow beyond being single images run on premise to being comprised of multiple tiers that can be run and scaled in a hybrid cloud, new approaches are needed to reduce complexity.” Docker is focused on reducing the complexities of building, shipping and running distributed applications, whether deployed on prem or in the cloud. We blieve our inclusion in the report reflects the progress that we’ve made over the last year to develop the tools and technologies that increase productivity for development and operations teams alike  – at every phase of the distributed application lifecycle.
