The 10 Most Common Questions IT Admins ask About Docker

Over the past few months we have attended a string of industry tradeshow events, helping to teach the world about Docker for enterprise. We were at HPE Discover, DockerCon, RedHat Summit and Cisco Live all within the past 6weeks! I had the pleasure of helping to represent Docker at each events and spoke with attendees. Some folks worked in IT ops, while others worked in development. I also spoke with a lot of folks working as IT admins within their company’s infrastructure team, and over time, I began to notice some trends when it came to the types of questions they asked. This got me thinking. Why not put together a list of the most common questions from IT administrators? I mean there’s a good chance there are other IT infrastructure folks out there who have the very same questions, Continue reading…

Indiana University Uses Docker Datacenter for Production-Ready Orchestration

Founded in 1820, Indiana University has over 115,000 undergraduate and graduate students, 20,000 faculty members and eight campuses located throughout the State of Indiana. The University’s vision is to provide their students with the best possible education experience via a world-class IT team. For almost a decade the university was building custom scripts and deploying their applications onto VMs running on RHEL 6. A process that involved lots of manual work. In addition to this, their environment was optimized for their legacy Java-based applications. In order to give their students the best experience possible, the University needed to not only modernize their 150 applications that span across both administrative and student lines and include everything from human resources based applications, course selection, finances and other student-facing applications. They also needed the ability to deploy their applications across their multi-host datacenter Continue reading…

Using Docker Datacenter for Enterprise-Ready Orchestration – The SA Home Loans Story

Orchestration for dockerized applications in production has been a huge reason for why today’s enterprises have begun to leverage Docker Datacenter. Universal Control Plane, the management layer of the Docker Container-as-a-Service platform delivers production-level orchestration. The tool enables enterprise IT ops teams to manage, deploy and scale their applications across their multi-node clusters. These clusters can be comprised of nodes that exist both in cloud providers like Azure and AWS as well as in the datacenter. Universal Control Plane comes with Docker Swarm embedded into it, giving it the power to create clusters and scale applications across their environment, regardless of infrastructure type, all with support from the Docker team.

Webinar Q&A: Scanning Images and Ensuring Secure Content with Docker Security Scanning

A few weeks back we released Docker Security Scanning. The tool formerly known as Nautilus provides binary scanning of images on a layer by layer basis. It then provides teams with the actionable intelligence they need in or to ensure they are leveraging secure base images as they build their applications, helping to secure the application delivery pipeline. The feature is available today as a free preview within Docker Cloud.

FairFly Makes Deployment Super Easy with Docker Cloud

In case you were wondering who’s actually using Docker Cloud. Last week FairFly, an awesome startup that helps their customers rebook flights for less, participated in a joint webinar called “How FairFly Uses Docker Cloud.” During the webinar, Fairfly CTO and co-founder Ami Goldenberg explains how with Docker Cloud, our SaaS hosted service for managing and deploying applications in production, they are able to create an end-to-end CI/CD pipeline, focus on building apps vs. maintaining infrastructure itself, and able to reduce infrastructure costs.
