Docker and Booz Allen Hamilton Modernize Traditional Apps in Government IT

Existing applications and infrastructure account for the majority of IT spend in maintenance and support. Docker and Booz Allen Hamilton are partnering together to help Federal agencies modernize traditional apps with Docker Enterprise Edition (EE), deploy onto modern infrastructure to save infrastructure and operational costs, increase security and gain workload portability. This program helps accelerate the path to modern microservices and infrastructure with containers: First by containerizing the app in place and using container architecture to break up the app into smaller services over time The full stack portability provided by Docker EE allows for workload consolidation for greater app density per server, accelerate hardware refresh cycles and cloud migration. Lastly, Docker EE provides new levels of security for the legacy app. Scanning provides binary level visibility into components and their security profile for proactive remediation and configurable isolation properties Continue reading…

The Latest Docker Certified Container and Plugins for March and April 2017

The Docker Certification Program provides a way for technology partners to validate and certify their software or plugin as a container for use on the Docker Enterprise Edition platform.  Since the initial launch of the program in March, more Containers and Plugins have been certified and available for download.   Certified Containers and Plugins are technologies that are built with best practices as Docker containers, tested and validated against the Docker Enterprise Edition platform and APIs, pass security requirements, reviewed by Docker partner engineering and cooperatively supported by both Docker and the partner. Docker Enterprise Edition and Certified Technology provide assurance and support to businesses for their critical application infrastructure. Check out the latest Docker Certified technologies to the Docker Store: Dynatrace provides monitoring Docker applications and Docker clusters out of the box. {code} by Dell EMC certified a number of REX-ray Continue reading…

Webinar recap: Docker 101 for federal government

Docker is driving a movement for IT teams across all industries to modernize their applications with container technology. Government agencies, like private sector companies face similar pressures to accelerate software development while reduce overall IT costs and adopting new technologies and practices like cloud, DevOps and more. This webinar titled “Docker 101 for the Federal Government” features Andrew Weiss, Docker Federal Sales Engineer and breaks down the core concepts of Docker and how it applies to government IT environments and unique regulatory compliance requirements. The presentation highlights how Docker Enterprise Edition can help agencies build a secure cloud-first government. Watch the on-demand webinar to learn how Docker is transforming the way government agencies deliver secure, reliable, and scalable services to organizations and citizens. Here are the questions from the live session: Q: Is Docker Datacenter available both hosted and as Continue reading…

Get all the Docker talks from Tech Field Day 12

As 2016 comes to a close, we are excited to have participated in a few of the Tech Field Day and inaugural Cloud Field Day events to share the Docker technology with the IT leaders and evangelists that Stephen Foskett and Tom Hollingsworth have cultivated into this fantastic group.  The final event was Tech Field Day 12 hosting in Silicon Valley. In case you missed the live stream, check out videos of the sessions here. Session 1: Introduction to Docker and Docker Datacenter Session 2: Securing the Software Supply Chain with Docker Session 3: Docker for Windows Server and Windows Containers Session 4: Docker for AWS and Azure Session 5: Docker Networking Fabric These are great overviews of the Docker technology applied to enterprise app pipelines, operations, and  diverse operating systems and cloud environments. And most importantly, this was a great opportunity Continue reading…

How To Dockerize Vendor Apps like Confluence

Docker Datacenter customer, Shawn Bower of Cornell University recently shared their experiences in containerizing Confluence as being the start of their Docker journey. Through that project they were able to demonstrate a 10X savings in application maintenance, reduce the time to build a disaster recovery plan from days to 30 minutes and improve the security profile of their Confluence deployment. This change allowed the Cloudification team that Shawn leads to start spending the majority of their time helping Cornelians to use technology to be innovative. Since the original blog was posted, there’s been a lot of requests to get the pragmatic info on how Cornell actually did this project.  In the post below, Shawn provides detailed instructions on how Confluence is containerized and how the Docker workflow is integrated with Puppet. Docker Presents at Inaugural Cloud Field Day

Thanks to everyone who joined us last Thursday. We were really excited to participate in the first Cloud Field Day event and to host at Docker HQ in San Francisco. In watching the trend to cloud and the changing dynamics of application development, the Tech Field Day organizers, Stephen Foskett and Tom Hollingsworth started Cloud Field Day to create a forum for companies to share and for the delegates to discuss. The delegates came from backgrounds in software development, containers, networking, virtualization, storage, data and of course, cloud… As always, the delegates asked a lot of questions, kicked off some great discussions, even had some spirited debates both in the room and online, always with the end user in mind. We are looking forward to doing this again. ICYMI: The videos and event details are now available online and also follow the conversation from Continue reading…
