Day 1 Keynote Highlights from DockerCon San Francisco 2018

Hello from San Francisco! Tuesday we kicked off the first day of DockerCon with general session jam packed with inspiration, demos and customer guest speakers. Steve Singh, our CEO and Chairman opened the session with Docker’s promise to ensure freedom of choice, agility in development and operations and pervasive security in a container platform that can help unlock the potential for innovation in every company. Docker Government Summit 2018

This year’s summit reflected what is top of mind for government organizations, namely IT modernization and what that means for infrastructure, applications, data and the workforce. As mentioned in the keynote address, the line between government IT and private sector IT is blurring now more than ever. From the priorities outlined in the White House IT Modernization Report to the discussions at the recent IT modernization summit, the themes focus on results of better customer service and better stewardship of tax dollars. Better customer service translates into improving existing services, delivering new services and increasing transparency. MetLife Uses Docker Enterprise Edition to Self Fund Containerization

MetLife is a 150 year old company in the business of securing promises and the information management of over 100M customers and their insurance policies. As a global company, MetLife delivers promises into every corner of the world – some of them built to last a lifetime. With this rich legacy comes a diverse portfolio of IT infrastructure to maintain those promises. In April, Aaron Aedes from MetLife spoke about their first foray into Docker containerization with a new application, GSSP, delivered through Azure. Docker Enterprise Edition for Linux on IBM Z (yes, mainframe!)

Recently we released a new version of Docker Enterprise Edition featuring expansion of the multi-architecture capabilities from Linux to Windows Server and now the IBM Z mainframe platform. Enterprise IT architecture is complex and diverse and include workloads across different server hardware types and operating systems.
