Micro Service Architecture Platform by Vita Bortnikov (IBM), Tamar Eilam (IBM), Darrell Reimer (IBM)
Micro Service Architecture is a set of principles for programming and continuously delivering services “born on the cloud” with extreme robustness and scalability. These principles include: loose coupling, automatic scaling, dynamic discovery and binding, and failure tolerance. In this presentation we will describe a Micro Service Architecture Platform that we have built as an extension of our Container (Docker) cloud in support of these principles.
4:00pm to 5:00pm – Mandalay Bay, Mariners A
Docker technology is rapidly changing application development practices. Every day, thousands of developers create new Docker-based applications or re-architect existing ones into Docker-based components. To experience all the benefits of Docker technology, a docker-centric execution environment is needed that fully embraces the agility and performance of container technologies. In this talk, we will discuss the latest research advances aiming to achieve this goal in enterprise cloud environments. Come explore how container-based technologies can change application integration and management.
4:00pm to 6:30pm – Mandalay Bay, Islanders Ballroom A-B & F-G
Mobile, social and big data /analytics are key trends that are changing the way that we interact with our customers, business partners and colleagues. Capturing the value from these interactions requires rapid innovation, interoperability and scalability enabled by an open technologies approach. At this Open Tech Summit, leaders of the most innovative, game-changing open technology communities—including OpenStack, Cloud Foundry, Docker, jQuery and more—will share their perspectives on the benefits of an open approach to your organization. Several IBM CTOs and Fellows will provide IBM’s point of view on these technologies and explain how IBM is not only contributing to but also leveraging these technologies.

Docker: Up Close and Personal with IBM’s Technical Leaders by Andrew Hately and Doug Davis, IBM
In data center and cloud circles, containers in general and Docker in particular are hotter than hot! Come join a roundtable discussion on IBM’s container strategy and how you can leverage Docker to optimize your open cloud architecture. You’ll learn why containers will significantly accelerate the development and deployment of applications on cloud and provide a key building block in micro-service based, massively scalable applications. You’ll join a roundtable with IBM Distinguished Engineer Andrew Hately and IBM Senior Technical Staff Member Doug Davis, who are driving the IBM/Docker partnership and leading IBM’s participation in the Docker Open Source community. Come explore with them why and how Docker is a “game changer.”
03:30pm to 4:30pm – Mandalay Bay, Breakers F
Session: Docking DevOps by Daniel Berg and Robbie Minshall, IBM
Software development is changing. Businesses know they need to evolve and engage their customers and that rapid software release cycles, while challenging, are a critical aspect of this change. Docker has the potential to dramatically simplify DevOps at a time when pressures and innovation are accelerating. This presentation will look at how and why Docker is changing DevOps, why in such a short it has leapt up to #2 on the open source contribution charts, and most importantly how you should embrace Docker in your organization. We will discuss and demonstrate how to do continuous integration, test and delivery of Docker applications. We will also explore how Docker relates to IBM DevOps Services and products like IBM UrbanCode Deploy.
03:30pm to 4:30pm – MB: Surf Ballroom F
Containers promise to provide the ability to take a lightweight image from development and deploy it at high density in production. In this session, you’ll see how the combination of WebSphere Application Server Liberty profile and Docker can deliver on that promise. After an overview of containerization and Docker, the session will demonstrate how quickly you can get an application up-and-running with a WebSphere Application Server image, and how a continuous delivery pipeline could be used to take that image through to production—whether on-premise or in the cloud—without the pain of pushing around multi-gigabyte virtual images and without the danger of any more “it works for me” moments.
Tuesday, Feb 24th:
08:00am to 09:00am – Mandalay Bay, Breakers C
Riding the Docker Wave—Power Systems Included
The cloud community is making a lot of noise about a new technology called Docker. This session will introduce you to the technology, explain why it is being viewed as a “game changer,” and illustrate where you’ll probably see it being used in current and upcoming projects. We will show how a customer can use Docker seamlessly on IBM Power Systems platforms. We will show what we are doing internally as well as with community to make this experience even more seamless by enabling more content for Docker applications on Power Systems, like WebSphere Liberty profile and node.js on Power Systems, and by extending the Docker ecosystem with support for multiple architectures.
10:00am to 10:50am – Mandalay Bay, Dev Ops & CE Engagement Center
Accelerating DevOps with Docker Technology by Doug Davis, IBM
You may have heard about the exciting new virtualization and packaging technology called Docker. After a brief introduction to the Docker technology, this talk will focus on how Docker has the potential to radically improve and reshape today’s best-of-breed DevOps practices and tools. We’ll review how the Docker open source project is organized and how you can get involved. The session will then examine how Docker technology may be leveraged by OpenStack and integrated into Cloud Foundry. Finally, we’ll give a quick demo to illustrate the concepts the session has discussed.

Docker technology is transforming the way applications are delivered, enabling composable, agile development and providing DevOps professionals the ability to move applications between cloud environments. In today’s fast-paced global economy, applications can no longer be tightly coupled to a virtualization technology, or to a particular cloud platform. Join us in this instructor-led, hands-on lab to see how you can easily leverage this technology via the IBM container service, to provide flexible and portable applications at minimized costs. See how easy it can be to standardize portable Docker images that work across different environments.
12:00pm to 12:20pm – Mandalay Bay, Cloud Theater in EXPO
EXPO Theater: How to Train Your Docker Cloud by Alex Heneveld, Cloudsoft Corp
In this talk we look at Apache Brooklyn and the drivers behind this open source project. In particular, we discuss its relationship to the OASIS CAMP specification that underpins Brooklyn’s YAML application blueprints, and how these blueprints enable you to model your application, capturing both its at-rest topology and how this will evolve once deployed and managed. Finally, we look at a new Apache licensed open source project, Clocker, which uses Brooklyn to spin up and manage a Docker cloud that Brooklyn can then target, enabling application blueprints to be deployed and managed in a container cloud.
